Siamese fighting fish: A dazzler
Koi betta fish are
also known as Siamese fighting fish. These fishes are small in size when
compared to other ordinary fish. But bettas have so many different combinations
of colors on their skin, making them unique.
Bettas are native to the
southeast
part of Asia, where trading these pet animals is common. These colors are
eye-catching and astonishing. Besides these colors, they have fantastic type of
skin patterns as well.
Thailand
In Thailand, residents call these animals pla kat.
When translated called fighting fish. Of course, it couldn't be more specific
and appropriate than this name. Male categories of these fishes are aggressive
fighters who flare their gill covers to scare other male bettas. They use their
teeth to bite or kill other fishes and spread their fins to show
their dominance.
Because many betting systems are now involved in
this game where one betta fights with the other, whoever wins, the owner or
trainer of that betta, is rewarded, people in Thailand have this tendency to
train different bettas in such a way that they can fight for hours.
Way of living
When bettas are held captive, they get stressed and
show more signs of aggression than ever before. No doubt, with the outside
world, they will feel and look the same: their color, skin patterns, and
overall looks.
In their native home, the bettas are disappearing
slowly; it is because, in huge quantities, people export these fishes to
different countries. They have become the means of transportation, the standard
of earning or earning a profit, and the means of commencing a new startup. But
it is the inside where they are getting nervous, stressed, and aggressive.
Origin
There are 74 kinds or species of betta that reside
in freshwater. They are heavily found in Southeast Asia, and this part of Asia
is their primary origin. These 74 varieties came from only one family,
initially Osphronemidae.
But the world is unfamiliar with this name; it is
customary to call it betta splendens. These bettas reside in Mekong and Chao
Phraya rivers basins commonly found in Thailand, formerly known as Siam.
Size and life
They are not huge in size or smaller. They grew
about 2.4 to 3.1 inches long, between 6 to 8.2 cm in centimeters. Their peak is
adulthood; they are sharp, quick, and raised in their majority. After that,
they gradually decrease in every way.
Talking about their lifespan, beautiful
betta fish only lives for 2 to 3 years. They have
a concise amount of time in this world. But there is something that their
owners can do to increase their life expectancy, such as:
l
Feed them food high in protein,
minerals, vitamins, and nutrients.
l
The best food approaches are larvae,
blood worms, black worms, mosquito larvae, and so on.
l
Keep the current of water steady and slow.
l
Change the water after every few days or
thrice a week.
l
Give them their diet twice a day.
l
Watch out for their behavior.
l
Their tank should be filled with toys,
rocks, a room, plants, and stones.
l
Play with them. Call them by their name.
