Can betta fish bite you?
Beautiful
betta fish do have teeth, and they
can even bite you. This is why, at any point in life, if you become the betta
owner, you should know about their behavior, the environment they seek, and the
perfect aquarium size or partner for a betta.
Betta fish are known as Siamese fighting fish. This
is the name they go by for their notorious figures, anger, aggression, and
territoriality. Doing all these can prevent some of the most common accidents,
especially in houses with small kids and other pets.
Teeth
Right at the bottom jaw, a row is covered in a white
color on which there are teeth. But their teeth are so more petite in size and
can not be seen if a person is standing in the distance.
They are only visible from a close look to get an
idea of their appearance, shape, and size. A person can use a camera or
magnifying lens to look closely at these betta fish teeth.
Their teeth play only three roles in their life, and
that is
1.
Chewing of food
The critical use of their teeth is for eating. They
continuously chew the food until it is soft and broken down into many pieces,
which they can easily swallow. Meat is a staple diet; they even chew plants
from time to time to consume it.
2.
Stopping the prey
The other reason betta wishes to use their teeth is
the prey trying to escape. Their teeth help them to stop their victim and
devour them by running. Betta fish uses their teeth to kill them.
Such as larvae or blood worms are also found in the
same place where these fishes reside. They kill them and eat them. In this way,
we can say that betta fish have an endless supply of larvae, mosquito larvae,
black worms, and blood worms to keep their stomach full.
3.
Fighting
The last reason for using their teeth comes when
they fight with other fish of their nature. They bite other fishes' tails,
fins, or gins to injure them in the worst possible way. Even sometimes, they
bite their head.
All of this results from killing them and being
alone and superior.
Can they bite you?
Putting your hand in koi
betta fish tank and thinking they will not bite is not
the best idea. As curious and suspicious as they are of their surroundings,
they can easily assume that you are just like any other
predators entering their territory.
There are no cases where the betta has bitten a
human mind, but you must be careful.
Why do they bite
humans?
They will bite humans only if they see or feel it
like a threat to them. They are creatures that need to be alone, eat alone, and
don't want anyone to disturb their way of living.
Their brain can easily give them signals that you
are invading their space or region of living; getting these types of feelings,
they will harm or bite your hand without giving a second thought.
